I’ve been debating what to wear when I meet President Obama in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday. I haven’t worn a dress in so long, I had to buy one. I don’t think my fuschia and black, above the knee dress will do for the occasion so I purchased this one at one at my favorite store: Ann Taylor. I can also wear in Paris, for my dad’s 85th birthday on May 20th.
I love the necklace my husband gave me for Christmas. It just happens to go well with the colors in my dress.
My problem is the weather. It seems like there’s a 40% chance of rain on May 1st, in Ann Arbor, and I plan on wearing sandals. I shall of course shake hands and get a photo with President Obama. (I must be dreaming, but who knows? My next blog post will tell.) President Obama is making the commencement address for graduates of the University of Michigan, and my oldest son is graduating. (Yes, he’s the one who triggered our move to Belize in 2004 to get him back on track, and I’m happy to say IT WORKED!)
Do you think I can film the President with my flip camera? We are not allowed to bring any fancy cameras and have to go through airport style screening devices.
Why do I always have to organize my house before I leave? Is it in case I don’t make it back, and want to leave a good impression?
I gave my dog a bath and washed her covers so she would smell clean, just in case.

Ann Taylor is one of my favorite stores as well. The clothes are just so classy.

I'd love to hear Obama's speech! Lucky you. And you'll be a knock-out in that dress and necklace.

Nice conservative dress in my opinion! Pretty necklace..
I clean out when I am traveling…every year, 2 x a year, Christmas and summer, I go through all of our clothing, books, toys, everything and donate what we are not using, or grown out of…
it feels good and then we have space when we come back for anything we may have picked up on our travels.

You will for sure be looking good, Sonia. I have no idea on what the rules will be with your camera and pics of Obama, but make sure you get lots of pictures of your graduate with his proud mom. I always have that tendency to clean when I am leaving also.

LOVE the necklace! and I totally miss Ann Taylor! :o)
As for cleaning before I travel, YES! NEVER NEVER leave dirty dishes or unmade beds…just in case! OL

I always spazz about what to wear at big events too but then I never notice what anyone is wearing and I wonder if anyone notices what I have on. I also like things clean when I leave. Nothing worse than coming back to a dirty house.
Say HI! to Mr. Obama. I for one thing he's doing a good job under extreme conditions.

Sonia, what a great post title!
I think you will look fabulous, and I'm looking forward to hearing what it was like to hear the President in the flesh! Wish I could be there too.
Congratulations on having a college graduated son!

If I´m going on a longer trip I do go through some things. But if it´s just a short trip, no.
Sounds exciting meeting the president!
Congrats to your son for graduating!

I was going to make a silly comment about some type of "Tea Bag dress"… but seriously, the President will be noticing your face, not your dress. Your warm and gracious smile will be more than sufficient regardless of the dress you choose to wear.
Have fun and tell us all about it when you return.

You may wear just anything! Pres. Obama is more concerned with larger issues, he doesn't look at womens' clothes! besides u would look good anyways!

you would look good in just anything!
A black dress with a string of white pearls!

How are you meeting him? The graduates aren't even meeting him! How did you get on the inside?

I do clean before I go somewhere — confident I'll be back, I want to walk into a tidy house that smells good.
Good luck getting that photo taken with President Obama — but the big moment will be your son getting his diploma. That's huge.
