What an amazing day. I’m so excited, I have to blog about it. I’m, going to be in the Laguna Beach Independent this week with my photo and a small blurb. My first time in a newspaper talking about my memoir.
This happened unexpectedly on Easter Sunday when I left my family at home, to finish off the brunch leftovers and attended an open mic event at Laguna Beach Books. Amy Wallen, founded the Dime Stories, an event that allows writers to read their work for three minutes, and yes, every writer has to stop when the alarm beeps.
I showed up early and placed my name in the red tin. As luck would have it, my name was called first. I picked an excerpt from a chapter in my memoir called “Ivan” based on our first hurricane experience on the island, Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Nervous as hell, I kept reading as the camera clicked. It wasn’t till the end that I was told that I’d be in the newspaper and was interviewed by a reporter. This has never happened to me before.
One of the readers at the event was Adam Lambert’s father. If any of you watch American Idol, you’ll know who Adam Lambert is. He’s actually my favorite Idol right now. Here’s his latest song, “Mad World.”
Monday is still Belize Day, but I had to share my Easter Sunday.

How cool is that? Wow! Adam is a very talented young man. We think he will probably win. Will you be able to post a link to your interview so we can all read it?
Happy Easter!

Emma Rose,
I spoke with Adam’s Dad for about five minutes. He’s a very down to earth, kind man and he read a humorous story which caused many laughs from the audience. I asked him about whether Simon Cowell talks to the contestants in between shows, and he said, “Absolutely not.” I asked if the group of singers all lived in the house together and if they get along, he said, “Yes, they all do and it was tough for Adam when his friend Meghan, got voted off. Every week if tough as they form tight friendships.” I asked if he had other kids and Adam has a brother three years younger, who is into computers, not show business. I didn’t want to come across as nosy, so I simply said how much I hoped Adam wins, because he truly is professional and deserves it.

Cool! And we know you!! 🙂

I think Adam will go all the way. Not only is he a good singer, but he is also an entertainer.
Sounds like you had a great day!
E says
What a perfectly great day.
Adam is a star. I called him as the Idol when they found in in SF. Was his dad talking much about him? They must be very proud of that kid….

We had taped last weeks American Idol, so that we could watch it later in the week. We watched it all the way to the end, anxiously awaiting Adam’s performance, only to find the taping stopped because the show went over time. I can’t tell you how disappointed we were that we missed his performance. My husband was pissed. I thought about buying the video on Itunes just to see it, but didn’t. And lo and behold you had it here at your site! I’m so glad I got a chance to see it. And as usual, he was outstanding.
Thanks,
Pat

Sonia, you forgot to mention the great job you did performing your own work! You had your own 3 minutes of Adam Lambert fame! Good job. Here’s a better link to DimeStories as well…www.dimestories.org

How exciting, Sonia!!! Congrats on the article – can you publish a link to it when it comes out? We watch American Idol here too and Adam is one of our faves – of course my son’s name is Adam too! He’s definitely got the “IT” factor going for him!

Betty,
How sweet of you to say that. I just lucked out.
Gramma Ann,
Glad to hear you’re a FAN of Adam too.
E,
His dad was proud of him, but also a regular dad, despite his son being in theater for years.
Joey,
Thanks for your visit and comment. I’ll have to find out about your book when I visit next.
A Fitness Minute Pat,
Glad you could see it on my blog. Yes, Adam is a great entertainer/singer.
Amy Wallen,
So honored you stopped by. Dime Stories is really a great way to get up in front of everyone and share, and listen to others. Thanks.
Elizabeth,
How much fun that must be to know the Dad well.
Andrea,
Thanks for your nice comment.
Dodie,
I love the way you show the humor in every situation. Thanks.

It was luck that I got asked to read first. Thanks.
